Jagex is a renowned video game developer and publisher, most famously known for its massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), RuneScape. Established in 2001 and based in Cambridge, UK, Jagex has been a significant player in the gaming industry, consistently delivering engaging and immersive experiences for players around the world. RuneFest is Jagex’s annual fan convention, celebrating all things RuneScape, and is a key event for the company to engage with its community and showcase new content.
Challenge
For RuneFest 2018, Jagex sought to deliver an exceptional and memorable experience for attendees, focusing on high-quality technical production to support the large-scale event. Held at the Farnborough Exhibition Centre, RuneFest is a major convention that attracts thousands of fans and features various activities, presentations, and live performances.
Production Live’s Role:
- Main Stage Production: Our primary task was to support the “main stage,” which featured a performance by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. This required the installation and management of large-scale video screens to ensure high-impact visuals for attendees.
- Technical Setup: The setup included a 15-meter wide, 6-projector blended screen and two IMAG (Image Magnification) screens for the wings, each consisting of two projector stacks.
- Networking and Power Infrastructure: We were also responsible for providing robust networking solutions for the tournament room, as well as power infrastructure to support the extensive projection system and tournament room area.
Outcome
- Main Stage Visuals: We delivered a high-quality video experience with a seamless blend across the 15-meter wide screen and the two IMAG screens. The use of Panasonic RZ21K projection systems and Barco E2 control ensured that the visuals were clear and impactful.
- Networking and Power: Efficiently set up networking infrastructure for the tournament room, enhancing connectivity and performance. Managed the power infrastructure to ensure reliable operation of the projection system and other technical elements.
- Event Success: The technical execution contributed to a highly successful RuneFest 2018, with attendees enjoying high-quality presentations and performances.
